Mike Jackson

British
Nationality:
A Manchester watercolourist whose warm, nostalgic scenes of British life and sport were painted with unmistakable working-class affection.
Mike Jackson was born in 1962 to a working-class Manchester family. He trained first as a butcher before teaching himself graphic design, spending around twelve years in commercial art before his illustration work developed into a full-time career as a fine artist.
Watercolour was his favourite medium, though he also worked in oils and pen and ink, always drawn to figurative and landscape subjects painted with real emotional warmth. His nostalgic British scenes — Staithes, Knaresborough, Betty's Of Harrogate — sit alongside whimsical figurative pieces and humorous animal-themed work, all carrying the same unmistakable affection for everyday British life.
As one gallery put it, his paintings are filled with the love and joy he felt while creating them — a reflection of his working-class roots and the life he lived. Mike Jackson passed away in April 2026, and his warm, nostalgic body of work remains a much-loved part of the collection he leaves behind.
At Dane Manor Fine Art, his collection includes Watching The World Go By, Best Mates, and sporting scenes such as Hit For Six, The Cup Final and Up, Up and Away.
