Robert Mars

American
Nationality:
An American pop artist whose resin-encased collages of vintage Americana and celebrity icons sit in the Microsoft, Nike and Bank of America collections.
Robert Mars was born in New Jersey in December 1969 and graduated from the Parsons School of Design in New York City, beginning his career as a graphic designer and later a design director for fashion brands. After periods in Los Angeles and Portland, he returned to the East Coast — now based in Connecticut — and moved into fine art full time.
His signature technique layers Xerox transfers of iconic images with collaged vintage materials, paint and a resin encasement, producing works that sit somewhere between Pop Art and Neo-Expressionism. His Futurelics Popforms series celebrates 1950s and 60s cultural icons, while his Coca-Cola Popforms were commissioned for the brand's centennial.
Mars's recurring subjects — Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Jackie Kennedy — explore American celebrity culture and consumerism through a distinctly nostalgic, collaged lens. His work has earned critical endorsement from Donald Kuspit, Bruce Helander and Eleanor Heartney, sits in institutional collections including the Coral Springs Museum and the International Museum of Collage, and has been acquired by corporate collectors including Microsoft, Nike, Bank of America and Wells Fargo.
At Dane Manor Fine Art, his collection includes Ascension, Love on 5th Avenue, Stars And Smiles, Dreaming I Am and Let Me Roll It.
