New York's Diamond District glitters in Benoit Havard's textured, abstracted cityscape. Thick layers of colour suggest busy streets, shopfronts and reflected light, capturing the electric pace of Manhattan.
 
Towers rise in deep blues and reds, their edges broken up by the palette knife so that the buildings seem to shimmer in the haze. Below, the wet street catches every light, with streaks of gold, white and crimson running towards the viewer as if after rain. Havard keeps the detail loose, giving just enough to suggest traffic, crowds and shopfronts while leaving the energy of the city to the colour. Diamond District, NYC is a limited edition print by Benoit Havard, a French painter whose luminous, palette-knife cityscapes of London and New York have found their way into the Louis Vuitton collection. His early work explored watercolours during travels to Morocco before he settled into the oils and palette-knife technique that define his mature style.
