Shaun Othen is a British figurative painter, born in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, in 1969. Drawn to classical art from an early age, he went on to study at Falmouth School of Art, where his passion for the human figure took hold.
After art school he signed with Artists Partners Agency, and his commissioned work has appeared on book jackets and in high-end publications internationally.
Othen works mainly in oils and believes an understanding of anatomy is essential to painting the human form. He cites Lawrence Alma-Tadema and Alphonse Mucha as influences, and his style has moved from strict photorealism towards something freer, using texture, line and abstraction while keeping a core of realism.
